On January 16, at the Government Office in Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Chí Dũng met with a delegation from Seoul Semiconductor Group led by CEO Lee Chung-hoon.

CEO Lee introduced Seoul Semiconductor as a company founded in 1992 and ranked among the top three global companies in LED component research, development, and manufacturing, with annual revenue exceeding USD 1 billion. He noted that the company operates nearly 30 offices across approximately 70 countries, along with manufacturing facilities in Korea, the United States, China, and Vietnam.

Currently, Seoul Semiconductor Group holds approximately 15,000 patents and is establishing new technological standards in the optoelectronics industry through LED chip technologies that can be directly mounted onto circuit boards.

In Vietnam, Seoul Semiconductor Vina has registered a total investment of USD 525 million in the Dong Van I Industrial Park in Ninh Binh Province, with actual disbursements exceeding USD 600 million, producing semiconductor products in the optics sector. The project consists of four phases, of which three phases have been completed, with production having commenced in January 2017.

Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Chí Dũng congratulated the company on its strong business performance and highly commended its contributions to Vietnam’s economic and industrial development.

Vietnam is pursuing institutional reforms, economic restructuring, and growth model innovation with the goal of achieving economic growth of over 10 percent by 2026, alongside the completion of a two-tier local government system.

Accordingly, the Vietnamese government has identified science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation as key growth engines, and is prioritizing 11 strategic technology sectors, including semiconductors and artificial intelligence.

In 2025, the National Steering Committee for Semiconductor Industry Development proposed comprehensive policy measures to promote the semiconductor sector, including the establishment of an investment support fund, implementation of a “green channel” for imports and exports, and direct financial support for R&D projects. The committee’s standing agency was also transferred from the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Science and Technology.

On the same day (January 16), Vietnam also held a groundbreaking ceremony for a high-tech semiconductor chip manufacturing facility to support domestic research, design, and production needs. This strategic project symbolizes Vietnam’s ambition to catch up with, advance alongside, and ultimately surpass competitors in the global semiconductor value chain.

The Deputy Prime Minister encouraged Seoul Semiconductor Group to prioritize the expansion of its investment and business activities in Vietnam, support Vietnamese companies’ participation in its production and supply chain, and strengthen cooperation in developing skilled professionals in the semiconductor sector.
