European Smartphone Brand Recall 

In July 2022, Conrad Electronic, the largest distributor of mobile phones in Europe, was ordered to stop sales of certain mobile phone models and recall products that infringe on the intellectual property of global LED manufacturer, Seoul Semiconductor (hereinafter referred to as Seoul).

Seoul is the only company in the world developing and producing lights that emit in all wavelengths from UV, to visible light, to IR (including laser diodes (VCSEL). Seoul invests close to 100 billion won per year for R&D and develops innovative LED technologies at a staggering pace. It has about 18,000 patents, which is at the highest level in the industry, applicable to all of the following industries.

◇ Lights: for sound sleep, good memory, and clear mind

Humans live in line with the Sun’s movement.  Morning sunlight leads to the secretion of ‘serotonin’ hormones for a clear mind. ◇ Dedication to R&D and its corporate philosophy

Seoul proceeded with 99 patent lawsuits in eight countries since 2003 and won them all. It is almost impossible to produce any LED gadget without avoiding Seoul’s patents. The industrial revolution resulted in the absolute poverty rate going down from 85% to less than 3% and the infant mortality rate dropping from 43% to 3%. Founder/CEO, Chung-Hoon Lee believes that developed countries with a strong heritage of respect for intellectual property rights guarantee a better life and respect for human rights for their citizens. 

Mr. Lee advocates the importance of ESG (Environment·Society·Governance) in management, pointing out that there are still companies that sell products infringing on patents under different labels for a bargain. He argues that such corporate behavior takes away fairness in opportunities, and wants to create a model that gives younger generations fair opportunities and hope. In this regard, it is his motto that he fights till the end.
